About Adam Photography has been a natural career progression for Adam. Following a childhood obsessed by nature and mountains he studied Environmental Geosciences at Sheffield University, a period during which his photography evolved from merely a record of his adventures into a tool for artistic impression. Finding inspiration first from the local Peak district, and latterly from some of the wildest corners of the world, his fascination with everything in the natural world from insects to mountain ranges has created many memorable images. Adam's images are regularly featured in the climbing press (the UK-based Climb, Climber, Summit, Friction and the pan-european Vertical ) as well as more widely-read publications such as The Times. A diverse list of commercial clients includes: Beyond Hope, The BMC, CSE Space Management, DMM, Evolv, French Rock, Great Orme Copper Mines, John Muir Trust, Lyon Equipment, Metolius, Rotovision, Spanset. Equipment: Adam works with several cameras depending on the demands of the shoot. A Nikon digital SLR system offers fast autofocus, motordrive, instant review and all the flexibility of a full digital workflow. For more considered work a Mamiya medium-format system, usually loaded with Fuji Velvia film and often paired with a special tilt/ shift lens, still delivers an unbeatable combination for capturing the subtle colours of landscape at dusk at dawn. The old Olympus OM4-ti 35mm system also refuses to be retired, offering a rugged, compact, high quality package for locations far from a plug socket. Climbing - more info on Adam's achievements Rope access - Adam is also a qualified supervisor and trainer in Rope Access. About this website Currently adamlong.co.uk is intended principally as an online portfolio for Adam's photography. Short-term additions will be more galleries, a comprehensive stocklist and support for higher browser resolutions; however the long-term goal is to have all Adam's images available in a searchable database.
